DNS Setup
One record at your domain provider is all a custom domain needs.
The record
| Type | Name | Target |
|---|---|---|
| CNAME | the part before your domain — www for www.yourbrand.com | cname.webforgia.com |
Settings → Domains shows the exact name and target for each domain, with copy buttons.
A root domain (yourbrand.com)
A root domain cannot have a CNAME record. Use your provider’s ALIAS, ANAME or flattened CNAME record with the same target instead — Cloudflare DNS does this automatically. If your provider has none of those, connect www.yourbrand.com and have the provider redirect the root to it.
Common providers
- Cloudflare — DNS → Add record → CNAME. A root-domain CNAME is flattened automatically.
- GoDaddy — My Products → DNS → Add → CNAME. Name
www. - Namecheap — Domain List → Manage → Advanced DNS → Add New Record → CNAME Record. Host
www. - Google / Squarespace Domains — DNS → Custom records → CNAME.
Remove any older A or CNAME record for the same name first — two records for one name is the most common reason verification never succeeds.
